Managing IT Risks un China: Virtual Private Networks (VPN)

IT related legislation is constantly evolving and has effects on companies' usage of Virtual Private Networks (VPN). To gain a better understanding of the situation and facilitate exchange, the German Chamber of Commerce in Beijing brought together a legal and an industry expert to share the latest experience from both perspectives.

Mr. Daniel Albrecht  introduced the main features of the Cybersecurity Law and its enforcement legislation effecting Virtual Private Networks (VPN). He especially focuses on the implications for foreign companies and how they can safeguard compliance within the new legal framework.

Mr. Thorsten Achenbach presented an understanding of VPN and its usage as well as on the situation in China regarding latest VPN regulations. He shared insights on how to manage on a company and private level and will share suggestions and experiences.

Mr. Thorsten Achenbach is CIO / Vice President IT at Bmw Brilliance China. Thorsten Achenbach is leading the IT and the “digital transformation” in China. The focus is to foster the digital technologies and industrialization 4.0 in the all manufacturing sites and support digital changes in the company.
Thorsten Achenbach began his career in Germany at University of Darmstadt where he studied Mechanical Engineering and Business & Administration. He has more then 20 years of experience in the automotive and manufacturing industry in various Business and IT areas. Previously, he worked as manager in BMW Group IT and for international companies from Germany, France and Japan.

Mr. Daniel Albrecht is a German attorney at law and has been running Starke Consulting since 2014. The firm specializes in corporate law, commercial law as well as trademark law and labour law. Daniel also assists his clients in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts and advises international companies in the M&A field. Furthermore, Daniel is a Guest Professor for civil law at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) in Beijing. Before joining Starke, he worked for a reputable law firm in mainland China and the oldest foreign law firm in Japan, where he represented mainly German speaking companies in the field of corporate and IP law.
